Hillary Clinton Monday urged her supporters to vote for a number of Democratic gubernatorial candidates campaigning in states currently run by Republican governors.
In her announcement, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee touted the importance of securing offices at the state level during this year’s midterms and highlighted five gubernatorial contenders she’s backing.
"Governors set the tone and direction for their states," Clinton tweeted. "They’re also our last line of defense against some of the Trump administration’s worst policies."

Hillary Clinton Endorses Voto Latino

A few weeks ago, I spent a little time at my favorite off-off-Broadway performance: my granddaughter Charlotte’s annual spring dance recital.
Watching her wave and spin among her friends, I felt so grateful to be a part of her big day. I can’t say that I’m completely free from the frustration and sadness I felt after the 2016 election, but spending time with family never fails to give me hope.
The same can be said for the time I’ve spent lately with some incredible leaders, from the group of women journalists I met in DC last month who have risked their lives to report on human rights violations in Georgia, corruption in China, and more, to the the artists, authors, and thinkers at the PEN World Voices festival who are fighting to defend free expression and freedom of the press -- around the world and right here at home.
And of course, I’m always inspired by the incredible organizations that Onward Together partners with. On Monday, we held our first-ever Onward Together convening, where the organizers and activists behind these groups and I had the chance to make plans for the next few months and beyond. I was so glad to see all of them, including the team at Voto Latino, who are behind some of the most thoughtful organizing of the last few years. Take a moment to learn a little more about them, and then head back out into the fight re-energized and ready to win.
Onward!

Onward Together works to build a brighter future for generations to come by supporting groups that encourage people to organize in their communities or run for office. Because you're an important part of Onward Together, we wanted you to get a chance to know these groups a little bit better. To learn more about Onward Together, click here.
The organization: Voto Latino
The organizers: María Teresa Kumar, President and CEO
The mission: To build a stronger and more inclusive democracy by providing culturally relevant programs that engage, educate, and empower Latinos to shake up politics.
The story: Voto Latino began as a PSA-based project in 2004 and evolved into a pioneering civic media organization that shakes up the political process by engaging the fastest growing, second largest group of citizens -- American Latinos. In the last 14 years, they’ve built a dedicated social media following that reaches over 10 million people weekly and cultivated a strong base of support from cross-industry arts, media, and pop culture influencers. Through three core competencies -- issue advocacy, leadership development, and civic engagement -- they have registered more than half a million voters, co-founded National Voter Registration Day, and can run and scale digital programs aimed at Latinos in all 50 states through tested social platforms, partnerships, and strategic digital targeting.
The latest: Voto Latino is launching a massive nationwide voter registration and civic engagement campaign leading up to the 2018 elections and 2020 census, including a strong digital campaign and a new version of VoterPal, the first-of-a-kind peer-to-peer voter registration app that promises to disrupt how we engage new voters. Voto Latino deeply believes that it’s time to go back to basics. By May, they will have trained over 300 new organizers in California’s Central Valley alone. Look out for them in eight states this summer, in addition to Los Dells, the nation's premier Latin American music festival over Labor Day, where Voto Latino will be the official voter registration partner.
The next step: Head to votolatino.org to learn more about where and how Latino voters can shape the 2018 elections.

Onward Together Endorses Emerge America

Friend --Like many of you, I've been reading a lot of news since the election. And some of the smartest, most enjoyable reading I've done has come from women who write about politics, culture, and the world around us.These women haven't let the frustrations and disappointment of the last year knock them down. They're leading new discussions about the fights ahead of us and need for passionate activism. They're starting new chapters of their lives -- getting married, raising their children. And they're finding new ways to change our world for the better.
I hope you'll take a moment to read more below about the work that another group Onward Together has endorsed, Emerge America, is doing to increase the number of women in public office. Over and over again, I've heard from young women running for office that Emerge gave them the tools they needed to get started. I'm grateful for that. Our communities -- from our families and workplaces to our neighborhoods and states -- are smarter and stronger when women have an equal seat at the table.
And to any women reading this, I hope you'll consider taking a chance on running for office. Being your champion was the honor of a lifetime -- now it's my turn to be on your team.
Onward!

The organization: Emerge America
The organizer: Andrea Dew Steele, President and Founder
The mission: To increase the number of Democratic women leaders from diverse backgrounds in public office by recruiting, training and providing a powerful network. The vision: To change the face of power, politics, and leadership in this country in order to have policies that are responsive to all Americans.
The story: Struck by the incredible lack of women holding elected office at the local level in San Francisco, Andrea co-founded Emerge California in 2002 to lead the fight to get more women elected to office in Northern California. Emerge California's top notch training program quickly became successful. So in 2005, Andrea founded Emerge America to replicate the model in all 50 states. Emerge America currently has affiliates with staff on the ground in 22 states with plans to expand across the country.
The latest: On Election Day in November 2016, 150 of the 214 Emerge America alumnae on the ballot won their races--a 70% win-rate. Since then, the number of women applying to Emerge America's training programs has increased by more than 85%, with no signs of slowing down. In 2017, Emerge America alumnae have won 88 out of 117 races - that is a 75% win rate. Emerge is not waiting until 2018 to win elections.
The next step: Already, 309 Emerge America alumnae have stepped forward to run in 2017 and 2018. Next month, 18 Emerge Virginia-trained women will be on the ballot for the Virginia House of Delegates. Visit emergeamerica.org to learn more.

The New Yorker Endorses Hillary Clinton

The New Yorker Endorses Hillary Clinton

The election of Hillary Clinton is an event that we would welcome for its historical importance, and greet with indescribable relief.

On November 8th, barring some astonishment, the people of the United States will, after two hundred and forty years, send a woman to the White House. The election of Hillary Clinton is an event that we will welcome for its immense historical importance, and greet with indescribable relief. It will be especially gratifying to have a woman as commander-in-chief after such a sickeningly sexist and racist campaign, one that exposed so starkly how far our society has to go. The vileness of her opponent’s rhetoric and his record has been so widely aired that we can only hope she will be able to use her office and her impressive resolve to battle prejudice wherever it may be found.

On every issue of consequence, including economic policy, the environment, and foreign affairs, Hillary Clinton is a distinctly capable candidate: experienced, serious, schooled, resilient. When the race began, Clinton, who has always been a better office-holder than a campaigner, might have anticipated a clash of ideas and personalities on the conventional scale, against, say, Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio. Instead, the Democratic nominee has ended up playing a sometimes secondary role in a squalid American epic. If she is elected, she will have weathered a prolonged battle against a trash-talking, burn-it-to-the-ground demagogue. Unfortunately, the drama is not likely to end soon. The aftereffects of this campaign may befoul our civic life for some time to come.
If the prospect of a female President represents a departure in the history of American politics, the candidacy of Donald J. Trump, the real-estate mogul and Republican nominee, does, too—a chilling one. He is manifestly unqualified and unfit for office. Trained in the arts of real-estate promotion and reality television, he exhibi

ts scant interest in or familiarity with policy. He favors conspiracy theory and fantasy, deriving his knowledge from the darker recesses of the Internet and “the shows.” He has never held office or otherwise served his country, never acceded to the authority of competing visions and democratic resolutions.

70 Nobel Laureates Endorse Hillary Clinton

Vogue Endorses Hillary Clinton for President of the United States

Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, Vogue, December 1993
For all the chaos and unpredictability and the sometimes appalling spectacle of this election season, the question of which candidate actually deserves to be president has never been a difficult one.
Vogue has no history of political endorsements. Editors in chief have made their opinions known from time to time, but the magazine has never spoken in an election with a single voice. Given the profound stakes of this one, and the history that stands to be made, we feel that should change.

Clinton is the clear choice for president

This one is a tad ascerbic. Just to make a point here, it is no fault of Hillary's or of her campaign that things are ugly.  Hillary is trying to campaign on the issues that matter to Americans.  Donald Trump chooses to spend his rally hours attacking her rather than talk about the issues except to say that he will "fix" things.  Hillary is full of ideas and plans.  Trump is bankrupt and goes on personal attacks since he is running on empty.

In an ugly election, the choice is clear: Hillary Clinton for president

This one is historic.

Why Latina magazine broke a 20-year tradition and endorsed their first presidential candidate ever.

“This is the moment when we can determine that an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.”
Never before in the 20-year history of Latina has the magazine endorsed a candidate—until today. But as the magazine noted, this is not an ordinary election. So, Latina broke tradition, joining forces with leaders in media and business, artists, and influencers to send a strong message—that we stand together to endorse Hillary Clinton for president. The roster includes powerhouse Latinos and organizations: Dolores Huerta, Eva Longoria, John Leguizamo, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Dulce Candy Ruiz, Roselyn Sánchez, and others.

The overall message was clear—the Latino community has the power to change this election.

This does not come as much of a surprise.  It is, however, a big endorsement not to be taken lightly nor overlooked.  Thank you, WaPo!

Hillary Clinton for president

October 13
IN THE gloom and ugliness of this political season, one encouraging truth is often overlooked: There is a well-qualified, well-prepared candidate on the ballot. Hillary Clinton has the potential to be an excellent president of the United States, and we endorse her without hesitation.
In a moment, we will explain our confidence. But first, allow us to anticipate a likely question: No, we are not making this endorsement simply because Ms. Clinton’s chief opponent is dreadful.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is dreadful, that is true — uniquely unqualified as a presidential candidate. If we believed that Ms. Clinton were the lesser of two evils, we might well urge you to vote for her anyway — that is how strongly we feel about Mr. Trump. But we would also tell you that was our judgment.
Fortunately, it is not.

Another Ground-Breaking Endorsement for Hillary Clinton!

Foreign Policy Magazine has never endorsed a presidential candidate.  The dramatic contrast between the 2016 major party candidates has impelled the editors to break tradition.  H/T to our pal "sam" for sharing this one.

Hillary Clinton for President of the United States

A Donald Trump presidency is among the greatest threats facing America, and the Republican standard-bearer is the worst major-party candidate for the job in U.S. history.
By The Editors of Foreign Policy
In the nearly half-century history of Foreign Policy, the editors of this publication have never endorsed a candidate for political office. We cherish and fiercely protect this publication’s independence and its reputation for objectivity, and we deeply value our relationship with all of our readers, regardless of political orientation.
It is for all these reasons that FP’s editors are now breaking with tradition to endorse Hillary Clinton for the next president of the United States.
Our readers depend on FP for insight and analysis into issues of national security and foreign policy. We feel that our obligation to our readers thus extends now to making clear the great magnitude of the threat that a Donald Trump presidency would pose to the United States. The dangers Trump presents as president stretch beyond the United States to the international economy, to global security, to America’s allies, as well as to countless innocents everywhere who would be the victims of his inexperience, his perverse policy views, and the profound unsuitability of his temperament for the office he seeks.
The litany of reasons Trump poses such a threat is so long that it is, in fact, shocking that he is a major party’s candidate for the presidency. The recent furor over his vile behavior with women illustrates the extraordinary nature of his unsuitability, as does his repudiation by so many members of his own party — who have so many reasons to reflexively support their nominee.

She clearly deliberated long and hard about this, and we respect her dedication to her Republican principles.  But Christine Todd Whitman could no longer simply be #NeverTrump.  She has joined the band of brave Republicans endorsing Hillary Clinton and we could not be happier to have her in our camp.  Welcome, Christie!

Ex-GOP gov Whitman says she's backing Clinton

We have been waiting for this for awhile, but we knew that sooner or later Christie would team up for the best choice in this election.

The Christie Bombshell … No! Not THAT Christie!

Bonus!  The conservative Enid News has also thrown its chops behind Hillary!  The reasonable choice!

EDITORIAL: Hillary Clinton is our choice for commander in chief

ENE Editorial Board

To paraphrase Albert Einstein, what is right is not always popular.
For our newspaper — a historically conservative voice in a conservative, Republican region of arguably the reddest state in the union — endorsing a Democrat for president is truly an exception.
But this is not a routine campaign. In fact, Nov. 8 will see the most crucial presidential election race in contemporary American history.

Realistically, we have only two candidates for president, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, though other names will appear on the ballot. As has been demonstrated time and again in recent months, Trump does not have the skills, experience or temperament to hold office. For voters, Clinton is the only reasonable choice.

The Boston Globe endorses Hillary Clinton for president.
This election isn’t a close call. Only one candidate on the ballot Nov. 8 belongs anywhere near the White House, and it’s Hillary Clinton. The Globe enthusiastically endorses her candidacy, and urges voters to run, not walk, to their nearest polling place when early voting begins in Massachusetts on Oct. 24.
SNIP

Framing the choice that way, though, sells Clinton way too short. Even against far more impressive opponents, she’d still be a great choice. Over her career, she’s demonstrated the poise, intelligence, dedication, and preparedness to be commander in chief. Hillary Clinton is not just the only safe choice in this election — she’s also the right choice.

A Breathtaking Endorsement for Hillary Clinton

The Atlantic has endorsed only three individuals for President of the United States.  These two.
The Atlantic has endorsed only three presidential candidates in 159 years. Abraham Lincoln (1860) and Lyndon B. Johnson (1964) were the first two. (Alexander Gardner / Getty; ullstein bild / Getty)

And this one.

Against Donald Trump

For the third time since The Atlantic’s founding, the editors endorse a candidate for president. The case for Hillary Clinton.
In October of 1860, James Russell Lowell, the founding editor of The Atlantic, warned in these pages about the perishability of the great American democratic experiment if citizens (at the time, white, male citizens) were to cease taking seriously their franchise ....
This is so powerful and historically significant.  It takes my breath away.

Union Square Ventures Unanimously Endorses Hillary Clinton

This is a first-time presidential endorsement for the firm.

Hillary Clinton for President

This is the fourth presidential election during the existence of Union Square Ventures and the first one in which we as a firm feel compelled to endorse a candidate: Hillary Clinton.
As investors in technology companies, we believe that technology and innovation create broad opportunity and improve lives. But we also know that, to date, the benefits of technology and globalization have not been evenly distributed. People with access to education and capital have prospered while many others have seen good jobs lost to automation or offshoring. We understand why people whose lives have been upended are frustrated by politicians who squabble for partisan advantage instead of developing consensus solutions. We are not surprised that many feel the urge to reboot the whole system.
We agree that more of the same is not the answer. In the next few years, we need to make the necessary smart policy adjustments to ensure that the benefits of technology and innovation are shared by society as a whole.
Shutting out the world is not an option. We don’t think it’s desirable, or even possible, to return to an earlier era when America was less diverse, or the economy was less global. There is no wall big enough to protect us from a changing climate or the unintended consequences of new technologies like artificial intelligence or DNA manipulation. Now, more than ever, we must work together. We cannot unilaterally set the rules for the other seven billion people on the planet. The only way forward is through an open, respectful, and rational dialogue grounded in science.
Of the two major party candidates, we believe that only Hillary Clinton has the temperament and experience to lead us at home and represent us abroad.
We hope that everyone, no matter how frustrated with our current politics, will get out and vote. We applaud the movement to give employees extra time off on election day. If you’re not registered and don’t see the point, we hope you will reconsider and register here or here.  This is an important election and we need to make a choice among the two leading candidates -- we believe that a protest vote is a wasted vote -- and for us the clear choice is Hillary Clinton.

Meanwhile, in the Wall Street Journal, Dorothy Rabinowitz sheds some light on why cable media insisted today in dismissive terms that newspaper endorsements do not mean much and probably do not influence votes.

Hillary-Hatred Derangement Syndrome

She alone stands between America and the reign of the most unstable, unfit president in U.S. history.

There were cheers when Donald Trump assured his Virginia audience last weekend that the wall will be built and, yes, that Mexico would pay for it. But the cheers lacked the roaring ecstasy his promise used to evoke at rallies. No one has the heart, by now, to pretend that such a wall will actually be built, but that’s all right with Mr. Trump’s dauntless fans, who can find plenty of other reasons for their faith in him. The NeverTrump forces, appalled at the prospect of a Trump presidency, are no less passionate.
The NeverHillary forces are another matter entirely—citizens well aware of the darker aspects of Donald Trump’s character but who have nonetheless concluded that they should give him their vote. They are aware of his casual disregard for truth, his self-obsession, his ignorance, his ingrained vindictiveness. Not even the first presidential debate, which saw him erupt into a snarling aside about Rosie O’Donnell, could loosen his hold on that visceral drive to inflict payback, in this case over a feud 10 years old.
The NeverHillary forces are aware, too, of his grandiosity—his announcement that he knows more about Islamic State than any of America’s generals will long be remembered—his impulse-driven character, his insatiable need for applause, the head-turning effect on him of an approving word from Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader’s compliment late last year was of the mildest kind—he referred to Mr. Trump as “talented” and “colorful”—but it was enough to make the candidate’s heart go pitter-patter with gratitude and engender instant expressions of his faith in Mr. Putin’s integrity and leadership. As Mr. Trump himself has explained, “if he says nice things about me, I’m going to say nice things about him.”
Such are the values that drive the Republican candidate’s judgment—a fact interesting to contemplate as one imagines a President Trump dealing with international conflict and rogue heads of state. Still Mr. Trump is now the choice of voters who have concluded that of the two flawed contenders running, he would be far preferable.

So while Andrea Mitchell & Co. blow off the newspaper endorsements as insignificant and irrelevant, it is undeniable that something is up with the conservative and Republican endorsements multiplying like loaves and fishes while Trump stands, as Chris Matthews just pointed out, with his finger in the air like Jesus on the Mount.

Most sound-minded Americans do not buy into Trump's dark and stormy vision that this country is in its worst shape ever.  That is not to say that what is not working doesn't need fixing and what works cannot be made better. It does indicate that most of us know that we are not looking for a redeemer.  The U.S. remains the most powerful country on earth. What we need is a clear-eyed, forward-thinking leader to put this country on the road to the 22nd century.  It is a century unlikely to be seen by anyone voting in this election.  But that is what elections are supposed to be about - the future.

Messianic prophecies of doom and gloom offer nothing for the path forward.  This is not a religious crusade, and underneath it all, Trump's positions smack exactly of that.  It is an election. It is secular.  We need a president for all of us. That person is not Donald Trump.

To date, Donald Trump has not been endorsed by a single major print news outlet.

It's the last night of the last quarter.  Stand with Hillary now!  Chip in!

Bernie Sanders’ ‘Most Loyal Republican Friend’ Gets Behind Hillary Clinton

Vermont businessman Tony Pomerleau is supporting the same presidential candidate as his longtime friend, despite their ideological differences.
09/29/2016
The latest Republican to endorse Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over GOP nominee Donald Trump is a longtime friend of Clinton’s opponent in the primaries, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Tony Pomerleau, a prominent Republican businessman and developer in Sanders’ hometown of Burlington, Vermont, endorsed Clinton in a charmingly brief letter to the Clinton campaign that was provided to The Huffington Post.
“I am a loyal Republican born in 1917 and the first time a woman could vote was in 1919,” the letter reads. “I will be most happy to cast my vote to the first woman president of the United States of America. I am a loyal friend of Bernie Sanders and in Vermont they call us the ‘Odd Couple.’”

Endorsement: Hillary Clinton is the only choice to move America ahead

The Arizona Republic editorial board endorses Hillary Clinton for president.

Since The Arizona Republic began publication in 1890, we have never endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for president. Never. This reflects a deep philosophical appreciation for conservative ideals and Republican principles.
This year is different.
The 2016 Republican candidate is not conservative and he is not qualified.
That’s why, for the first time in our history, The Arizona Republic will support a Democrat for president.

Coast-to-Coast Endorsements for Hillary Clinton

Both the New York Times and the L.A. Times have endorsed Hillary Clinton.

Our endorsement is rooted in respect
for her intellect, experience and courage.

Hillary Clinton for President

In any normal election year, we’d compare the two presidential candidates side by side on the issues. But this is not a normal election year. A comparison like that would be an empty exercise in a race where one candidate — our choice, Hillary Clinton — has a record of service and a raft of pragmatic ideas, and the other, Donald Trump, discloses nothing concrete about himself or his plans while promising the moon and offering the stars on layaway. (We will explain in a subsequent editorial why we believe Mr. Trump to be the worst nominee put forward by a major party in modern American history.)
But this endorsement would also be an empty exercise if it merely affirmed the choice of Clinton supporters. We’re aiming instead to persuade those of you who are hesitating to vote for Mrs. Clinton — because you are reluctant to vote for a Democrat, or for another Clinton, or for a candidate who might appear, on the surface, not to offer change from an establishment that seems indifferent and a political system that seems broken.
Running down the other guy won’t suffice to make that argument. The best case for Hillary Clinton cannot be, and is not, that she isn’t Donald Trump.
The best case is, instead, about the challenges this country faces, and Mrs. Clinton’s capacity to rise to them.

Editorial

Hillary Clinton would make a sober, smart and pragmatic president. Donald Trump would be a catastrophe.

The Times Editorial Board
American voters have a clear choice on Nov. 8. We can elect an experienced, thoughtful and deeply knowledgeable public servant or a thin-skinned demagogue who is unqualified and unsuited to be president.
Donald J. Trump, a billionaire businessman and television personality, is the latter. He has never held elected office and has shown himself temperamentally unfit to do so. He has run a divisive, belligerent, dishonest campaign, repeatedly aligning himself with racists, strongmen and thugs while maligning or dismissing large segments of the American public. Electing Trump could be catastrophic for the nation.
By contrast, Hillary Clinton is one of the best prepared candidates to seek the presidency in many years. As a first lady, a Democratic senator from New York and secretary of State in President Obama’s first term, she immersed herself in the details of government, which is why her positions on the issues today are infinitely better thought-out than those of her opponent.

Hillary Clinton Earns First Presidential Endorsement from Every Voice

Hillary Clinton Statement on Every Voice Endorsement

Today, after receiving the endorsement of Every Voice, Hillary Clinton issued the following statement:
“I am honored to earn the first-ever presidential endorsement of Every Voice.
“To strengthen our democracy, we need to get secret, unaccountable money out of our politics and get the voices of Americans back in. Every Voice is leading that fight. They uncover how special interests interfere with our democracy and block progress on critical issues like addressing climate change, preventing gun violence, and raising the minimum wage. And they have smart, concrete ideas on how to change our broken campaign finance system.
“I’ve made campaign finance reform a cornerstone of my campaign from the beginning. If elected, this will be a top priority for my presidency. And I will be a strong partner to everyone working toward that goal.
“In my first 30 days in office, I will propose a constitutional amendment to overturn the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision. I’ll appoint Supreme Court justices who understand how deeply that decision damaged our democracy. We’ll work to amplify the voices of Americans and make it easier for citizens to run for office by supporting small-donor matching. And we’ll fight for more robust disclosure requirements.
“The United States is the world’s oldest democracy and the greatest country in the world.  I believe deeply that our democracy should work for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected. We’ve got to do better. Organizations like Every Voice are working to do that every day.  As President, I will be their partner.”
