Food for Thought: Taco Trucks on Every Corner! YES!

Wishing everyone a lovely and safe holiday weekend. It promises to be a blustery one on the east coast, so batten down the hatches and be sure you have necessary supplies.

One thing Americans do over summer holiday weekends is party. We barbeque or bring pot luck to the picnic.

This guy, who visited Joy Reid last night when she was filling in for Chris Hayes at All In seems not to understand, nor does Trump whom he was representing, that assimilation is a two-way street.

Immigrants quickly adopt American holidays, and Americans tend to be inclusive about immigrant contributions.  Especially when it comes to food, Americans welcome a broad array of traditions.
So when Marco Gutierrez, founder of the group Latinos for Trump, issued what he thought was a dire warning, Americans were all a-Twitter with the hashtag #TacoTrucksOnEveryCorner.  They were most creative!

There are T-shirts and many pictures of beautiful tacos.  Even fusion tacos!

Democrats hopped on the taco truck with gusto!  Forthwith, there was a taco truck parked outside Trump's Colorado headquarters serving lunch and registering voters.

Hillary's Brooklyn HQ joined in - all fired up!

The twitterstorm was quickly usurped by the whole Hillary 2016 movement where convoys of taco trucks came to represent what most saw as positive all the way around, for the country and the economy.

Whatever apocalyptic visions Gutierrez sought to communicate, Americans on Twitter embraced the concept and even a few tweets from the UK and the Netherlands bespoke a desire for a candidate who would bring taco trucks to London and Amsterdam, Brexit notwithstanding.

The most popular comment was, "Dude, you said that like it was a bad thing!"  So far, no one has figured out what was supposed to be so awful. Seems impossible to find  anyone who isn't down with #TacoTrucksOnEveryCorner.

¡Sí se puede! We are so there!  As opposed to this at Beau's (apparently a sandwich tractor).

One thing is for certain.  There is broad agreement in the Democratic ranks that November 8, 2016 will be #TacoTuesday!

On a serious note, if you are facing the storm this weekend, we pray you stay safe. I can say this. When Superstorm Sandy blew my house to pieces, the contractor who had scaffolding up within days was Mexican.  I did not ask to see his documents before he started closing up my poor, damaged home.  I didn't care.  My insurance company didn't care, and my town officials didn't care either.  I hope no one has that kind of weekend.

Wishing everyone a Happy Labor Day weekend. Enjoy the hamburgers, hot dogs, pizzas, falafels, Korean BBQ, sushi, kebabs, French fries, General Tso's,and tacos.  Who's bringing the guacamole?  The sangria is on me!  Pour yourself a nice frosty margarita or cerveza and join the fun here >>>>

The Manafort Resignation: Robby Mook on Why the Bromance Survives

If you thought Paul Manafort's ouster from the Trump campaign signaled a pivot away from Trump's outreach to Putin, think again. Robby Mook has a message for you.   Manafort's Russian/Ukranian ties were just a bump in the Trump road to the Kremlin.

Statement from Robby Mook on Manafort’s Resignation

Friday, Hillary For American Campaign Manager Robby Mook issued the following statement on the resignation of Trump’s Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort:
"Paul Manafort’s resignation is a clear admission that the disturbing connections between Donald Trump's team and pro-Kremlin elements in Russia and Ukraine are untenable.  But this is not the end of the story.  It’s just the beginning.  You can get rid of Manafort, but that doesn't end the odd bromance Trump has with Putin. Trump still has to answer serious questions hovering over his campaign given his propensity to parrot Putin’s talking points, the roster of advisers like Carter Page and Mike Flynn with deep ties to Russia, the recent Russian government hacking and disclosure of Democratic Party records, and reports that Breitbart published articles advocating pro-Kremlin positions on Ukraine.  It's also time for Donald Trump to come clean on his own business dealings with Russian interests, given recent news reports about his web of deep financial connections to business groups with Kremlin ties.”
HFA also released a new video on Donald Trump’s tendency to echo Vladimir Putin’s talking points:

Russia

Putin shakes things up in the Kremlin

On the 25th anniversary of the 1991 coup, Fiona Clark takes a look at what might be prompting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s shuffling of positions within the Kremlin walls.
Russland Sergei Iwanow, Wladimir Putin und Anton Vaino in Moskau
Over the past few months Putin has been shaking things up a bit inside the Kremlin walls. But the question is, why? The most recent and high profile movement is the demotion of his long-time friend and ally, Sergei Ivanov, from his position as chief of Putin's administration.
Ivanov has been at the president's side since their days in the KGB in the 1970's. When Putin was running the KGB's successor, the FSB, Ivanov was his deputy and he took over from Putin when he moved into politics. He soon followed his leader to the Kremlin when Putin appointed him as defense minister and later deputy prime minister, and just over four years ago he stepped in to head up the administration. In terms of Kremlin hierarchy, he was said to be number 3. Now, as he moves to take up the role of "special presidential representative for environmental protection, ecology and transport" you'd be lucky to find a ticket with enough numbers on it to describe where he sits in the power pyramid.
This demotion may well an act of kindness by the president: Giving a man bereft with grief over the death of his son in 2014 a bit of space in a less high-profile position to recover. After all he has kept his position on the country's Security Council. But it can equally be seen as one more demotion, firing, removal or sideways push as the president restructures departments and shuffles the deck chairs around.
Heads may roll
Birds of a feather. Trump is Putin's foot in the door of this election.  No matter what the UK and Irish bookies are saying about the U.S. election, Putin's rubles are on Trump. How this can possibly sit well with the "America First" crowd defies logic and patriotism.

Robby Mook on Paul Manafort

We knew this was coming of course.

Statement from Robby Mook on Trump Campaign Chair Pro-Kremlin Ties

After more reports of Donald Trump’s campaign chair’s ties to pro-Kremlin elements in Ukraine, Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook released the following statement:
“On the eve of what the Trump campaign has billed as a major foreign policy speech, we have learned of more troubling connections between Donald Trump’s team and pro-Kremlin elements in Ukraine.  Given the pro-Putin policy stances adopted by Donald Trump and the recent Russian government hacking and disclosure of Democratic Party records, Donald Trump has a responsibility to disclose campaign chair Paul Manafort’s and all other campaign employees’ and advisers’ ties to Russian or pro-Kremlin entities, including whether any of Trump’s employees or advisers are currently representing and or being paid by them.”

From Hillary for America: Where the Race Stands

Thanks to nearly 9 million voters across the country and the support of people like you, Hillary Clinton has built a nearly insurmountable lead among both delegates and actual voters. Contrary to the claims of the Sanders campaign, in measure after measure, Clinton has shown the broadest support of any candidate currently running for president. We know that the misleading spin will continue, but we wanted you to know the facts about the real state of the Democratic primary.
The facts and the path forward are both clear....

Hillary for America Strategy Update from Robby Mook

Wow. This week, the campaign team was sprinting hard to hit our end-of-quarter fundraising goals, and because of another amazing team -- one you’re a part of,  we surpassed every last one of them. Thank you so much. You’re the best.

You all contributed more than $28 million to this campaign this quarter, which brings our total to above $75 million! I’m so grateful that you have Hillary’s back -- and believe me, so is she.

I would love to say thank you in person, but since I can’t do that, I did the next best thing: I made you a video. Take a look to get an inside peek at our strategy for the rest of 2015, then add your name to commit to the next phase of the campaign.

This team is incredibly special, and I’m thrilled you’re a part of it. Together, we’re going to get Hillary all the way to the White House.

Thanks,
Robby

Organizing for Hillary: A Progress Report

If you read the post about campaign manager, Robby Mook, you know something about his grassroots methodology.  If you have gotten involved at your local level, you probably have received some emails from Marlon Marshall, Director of State Campaigns and Political Engagement.  Marlon was also mentioned in the excellent analysis by Ruby Cramer that was attached in that post.

On the eve of the campaign launch in New York City, Marlon has shared a progress report on the grassroots organizing.

Building a Grassroots Campaign: By the Numbers

By Marlon Marshall, Director of State Campaigns and Political Engagement
When Hillary Clinton announced she was running on April 12, there was tremendous grassroots energy and excitement but no organization to harness it.
Two months later, at our end of the “ramp up” period, we’ve made great progress in building a grassroots-driven organization designed to win the Democratic nomination and dedicated to Hillary Clinton’s agenda.

Robby Mook: Organizing for Hillary

Fifteen and twenty years ago, every individual engaged in a battle of any kind, including Tony Soprano, was quoting Sun Tzu's The Art of War.  That long-deceased author never enjoyed any royalties from the popularity of his work.  If Robby Mook's strategy for organizing the Hillary for America campaign succeeds, Peter Senge of MIT might be thanking Hillary's campaign manager for his book, The Fifth Discipline, published in 1990, experiencing a rebirth on Nooks and Kindles and in popular media dialogue.

Mook attributes his self-discipline, to Senge's concept of "personal mastery" and it figures large n Mook's arsenal of organizing strategy.

Many readers here are getting involved in Hillary's campaign at the grassroots level, and Ruby Cramer's  brilliant, detailed analysis of Robby Mook's methodology in Buzzfeed is a gleaming nugget shining in the murky mine of how to get stuff done.

If you are the one in your locale who is responsible for getting names and assigning tasks, this is a must-read, but even if, like many of us, you count yourself among the ground troops and foot soldiers, these insights into the nuts and bolts of how the campaign is organized and who is doing it will assist your personal mastery of your personal tasks.  It is a gold mine!

Here are a few snippets, but I recommend that you pour yourself a glass of whatever you like and settle down for a bit.  It is not a short read  (not an unnecessarily long one either), and you will want to reflect upon and digest passages here.

Thank you, as always, Ruby Cramer!
