Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to her love of theater and emphasized the importance of women’s equality on Broadway and elsewhere at a women’s event Tuesday.
Speaking at the New Amsterdam Theatre, Clinton employed her theater references, ranging from “King Lear” to the diversity of the 2017 Broadway season to director Rachel Chakvin’s Tony Awards speech, to comment on current politics and her own frequent attendance on Broadway. At the heart of her speech was a call for women to speak up, whether it be through dramatic art or within the workplace.
“I feel a strong obligation to keep talking about the great unfinished business of the 21st century, namely expanding the rights, opportunities and full participation in every aspect of society by women and girls,” Clinton said. “And of course that includes the theater.”

Tonight, the company of The Cher Show got a special visit from former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Making her regular Broadway rounds, Hill made time to drop backstage for a visit with the show's stars Stephanie J. Block, Teal Wicks, and Micaela Diamond.

On Thursday night, Clinton showed up at the Off Broadway play Gloria: A Life, alongside her friend activist Jill Iscol, to two standing ovations from the crowd, according to a source. The play’s prolific producer Daryl Roth, as well as Gloria Steinem, its subject, were also in attendance. Completing the collection of accomplished women was designer Diane von Furstenberg ....

At last night's performance of Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song, the audience was surprised by a visit from Hillary and Bill Clinton. The pair entered, shaking the hands of audience members, who greeted them with a standing ovation.

So strange that these are the demeanors of folks supporting Donald Trump at one of his rallies when he is the installed president presumably making all their dreams come true. Why are they so angry?

I should point out that these artists did this on the one night a week that they have off. Broadway shows do not run on Mondays because at least one weekend day and also on Wednesdays they do both a matinee and an evening performance. So they did this on their only night off. They also said they would be back on another Monday. Thank you! Profusely!
The other day, Brassy Rebel said in a comment that we are in the Upside Down. Protesters are partying nightly having a great time. Rally-goers on the prevailing side appear miserable and angry. So what's up? And what's down?

Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children is a post-apocalyptic play—not that you would know from the outset. Set in a small cottage on Britain’s east coast, the space is almost inviting. There are wild flowers in milk bottles and candles in wine bottles. But Kirkwood’s stage directions hint at something more sinister: The room is at a slight tilt. This is because the land beneath it has eroded—in fact, the entire coast has been ravaged by a nuclear disaster caused by a nearby power plant, and in this tiny cottage, three of its former employees reunite to contemplate their part in this poisoned legacy. The Children, which received an acclaimed production at London’s Royal Court last fall, debuts on Broadway in a co-production from the London theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club. The British cast, made up of Francesca Annis, Ron Cook, and Deborah Findlay, reprise their roles for the American premiere, directed once again by James Macdonald. Hillary and Bill Clinton received a standing ovation from the crowd of a Broadway show on Sunday as they settled in to their seats to see a performance of the Tony Award-winning play, Oslo.
As the couple walked into Vivian Beaumont Theatre in New York, crowd members shouted 'We love you Hillary!' while giving them a standing ovation.
If you’ve seen a Broadway show in the last six months or so, there’s a significant chance you saw a surprise double bill: the play or musical you paid for and a celebrity cameo by Hillary Clinton, smiling politely as the audience gave her another standing ovation. On Thursday, the former Democratic nominee, her husband Bill, and her daughter Chelsea attended a performance of Come From Away, a musical about the roughly 7,000 air travelers grounded in Gander, Newfoundland, after planes were rerouted following the aerial attacks on 9/11. Christopher Ashley took home a Tony for Best Direction for the production earlier this month.
The musical’s co-writer David Hein later praised the Clintons, who posed for photos with the cast, on Facebook. Hein wrote in part, “So many lines in the show resonated differently — especially the scene where passengers try to vote for a different destination and are told, “this is not a democracy.” Afterwards onstage, they were so gracious, taking pictures and speaking to each of us. President Clinton told Caesar one of his 9/11 stories, when he met a Muslim man who was afraid his countrymen would never trust him again. We and Sharon got to introduce our daughters to Chelsea. And Hilary told us, ‘this is a show that the world needs now.’ So honoured to have this story of Newfoundland kindness recognized and celebrated by them.”
Hillary, who has said she likes lipstick and wears it, attended a performance of the new Broadway hit, "War Paint" starring Patti LuPone
and Christine Ebersole. The show focuses on the competition between
Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden for the women's cosmetics market.

Former presidential candidate visits Broadway for the second time in a month.

Clinton was greeted with cheers and a standing ovation February 15 at
Broadway’s Palace Theatre where she came to see Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard.
Clinton
arrived at the theatre about three minutes before curtain, and was
quickly recognized by the audience, which began cheering.
As the
lights went down for the show to start, just as the audience quieted
down, someone shouted “We love you, Hillary” and the crowd applauded
through the beginning of the overture clearly in response to the

Bill and Hillary Clinton were out on the town last night. They took in a performance of the Broadway hit In Transit, billed as a love letter to New York City, at the Circle in the Square. Perhaps they were celebrating Hillary's new book deal and upcoming speaking engagements.
Back on Broadway! Almost one month after getting a standing ovation at The Color Purple, Hillary and Bill Clintonreceived the same reaction at the Wednesday, February 1, performance of In Transit. Hillary’s longtime top aide Huma Abedin was also in attendance.
If there was any doubt that Broadway audiences love seeing the
Clintons among them, that was put to rest this weekend. Just a week
after attending the closing performance of "The Color Purple"where Hillary received a standing ovation, the Clintons caught the closing matinee of "The Humans" where the audience repeated the greeting.
