Opening bell to be rung by la belle Hillary

Just about a year ago, Senator Hillary Clinton (D - NY) at the end of a very busy day, went after dark to the Federal Reserve to speak to Timothy Geithner, then President of the NY Federal Reserve, to discuss the impending financial meltdown and its implications for the state she was representing, and for the country.

Tomorrow morning, now Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell. How things change. Geithner, as you know, is now Hillary's colleague on the cabinet as Secretary of the Treasury. And The Secretary of State will be in town for the opening of the UN General Assembly session. It's lovely having her home and seeing her so happy in her new position. She is completely restructuring the State Department with her QDDR which she initiated based on the Defense Department's QDR with which she became familiar while seated on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In her eight months as Secretary of State she has traveled to 34 countries and covered in the neighborhood of 132,000 miles on diplomatic missions packed with meetings and appearances. She has reached out to the people in every country she has visited and put her own personal stamp on the nature of her role. In addition to her open and personable outreaches to the people, she has made bold and firm statements to governments that would like more cooperation with the U.S. but fall short on human rights issues.

So our busy SOS is back home with us this week while former President Clinton holds his Fifth Annual Clinton Global Initiative Meeting, also in NYC. You can read the program for the week here. Notice who is giving the keynote address on the closing day at the plenary session. Yes! None other than our lovely Secretary of State, who is, yes, Bill's beautiful wife.

This is going to be a lovely week in NYC. Hillary always makes the town prettier.
