Upcoming at the State Department

In the midst of the Arab Spring, the sands at the State Department continue to shift. Jane Harman, speaking on State of the Union with Candy Crowley today, broke the news that Anne Patterson, former U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, will be replacing Margaret Scobey as Ambassador to Egypt. There appear to be no reasons why her confirmation would not proceed without a hitch based on her excellent record at her previous post. We wish Ambassador Patterson the best of luck and success in this new post as we thank Mrs. Scobey for her fine service in Egypt, especially during recent, trying times.

Hillary Clinton kicked off talks in Pakistan on October 28, as a car bomb ripped through a crowded market in the northwest city of Peshawar killing at least eight people. Clinton, promising new investments while fending off bitter criticism of Washington's policies from within the anti-terror ally, arrived just hours before the blast that also wounded at least 35.
