26th Annual World Food Prize Laureate Announcement

On June 12, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver the keynote address at the 2012 World Food Prize Laureate Announcement Ceremony. World Food Prize Foundation President and former U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia Kenneth Quinn will announce the winner of the 2012 World Food Prize in a ceremony at 10:45 a.m. in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State. Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Kerri-Ann Jones will host the event.
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the World Food Prize, which recognizes individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world. The World Food Prize includes a cash award of $250,000 and a sculpture by world-renowned designer Saul Bass. Each year, more than 4,000 institutions and organizations around the world are invited to nominate candidates for the prize. A distinguished Council of Advisors — which includes former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush — guides the World Food Prize.
The award will be formally presented in a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, on October 18, 2012, in conjunction with the Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium. For more information on the prize, go to www.worldfoodprize.org.

State Department to Host the U.S.-India Higher Education Dialogue

On Tuesday, June 12 Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Indian Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal will co-chair the U.S.-India Higher Education Dialogue at the State Department. Secretary Clinton and Minister Sibal will deliver opening remarks.

The United States envisions a robust role for the U.S. and Indian governments in promoting and encouraging the vibrancy and depth of the cooperation between our education sectors. This year’s Higher Education Dialogue will focus on advanced research and innovation and the role of community colleges in workforce development. It will identify key areas of educational cooperation, shared goals, and best practices, and will help frame our higher education priorities for the year ahead. Several outside experts will join the government delegations to offer their perspectives.

The Opening Session (10:00 a.m.) and the Closing Session (3:45 p.m.-4:15 p.m.) will be held in the Department of State’s George Marshall Center.
