Secretary Clinton and Colombian FM Bermudez Sign Science & Technology Cooperation Agreement

I have not found any text or videos of the remarks here. Secretary Clinton and Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez conducted the signing, and President Alvaro Uribe appeared to be presiding. He seems to be a pretty humorous guy offering Hillary the Bic with which she signed? Or perhaps telling her he will cherish it forever!

Washington, DC
June 9, 2010

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez signed an agreement today in Bogota that will expand cooperation on science and technology between the United States and Colombia.

The agreement will spur innovation and open new avenues of collaboration by promoting exchanges of scientists and information, collaborative research, and support programs to increase capacity of universities, research centers and national science systems. It will provide a framework for sharing best practices and new ideas between the scientific communities in both countries in areas such as biodiversity, forestry, water, energy, health, and many others. A joint committee of Colombian and U.S. representatives will decide upon specific areas for possible cooperation and the type of activities to be undertaken.

This agreement reflects the broad partnership between the United States and Colombia. Our two nations are working together to advance our shared goals of expanding economic opportunity and broad-based prosperity, ensuring the security of our citizens, developing clean sources of energy and protecting the environment, and promoting democracy and human rights.
