Hillary Clinton: These women are leading the way
In 2018, an unprecedented number of women are running for office -- 476 women in primary elections and 256 in House and Senate races in the general election coming in just eight days.
With the chaos of the Trump administration, it’s easy to see what is motivating so many incredible women to step off the sidelines and run for public office. From economic inequality to protecting the Affordable Care Act to fighting for common sense gun safety, women are leading the charge to restore the balance of power in our country by speaking for the people of their communities.
But in order to turn these historic races into historic victories, these women need our help now. The strong and talented women below are already leaders in their communities. Give $10.48 right now now to help turn them from leaders into senators and representatives.
Lauren Underwood (IL-14)
Lauren Underwood is a registered nurse with hands-on experience in our health care system, and an experienced leader who has dedicated her career to expanding all Americans’ access to quality, affordable care. Lauren is dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for all Illinoisans and to creating good-paying jobs so that hardworking families and their communities can thrive. As someone with a pre-existing condition, Lauren knows firsthand what’s at stake as we defend the progress we’ve worked so hard to make in expanding access to quality, affordable health care. Illinois’ 14th District has never before been represented by a woman or an African American in Congress, and Lauren has what it takes to win and make history.
Jahana Hayes (CT-05)
Jahana Hayes is a teacher and community leader running for Congress to fight for working families in Connecticut. Jahana is running to expand economic opportunity and help create good-paying jobs for hardworking Nutmeggers. She has personally experienced the power of public education, and she is a strong advocate for expanding access to educational opportunity to help families and communities thrive. At a time when Republicans in Congress are desperate to undo all the progress we’ve worked so hard to make, Jahana is a fierce advocate for expanding access to quality health care. Jahana has what it takes to win and deliver this must-win seat for Democrats to take back the House in November. There are currently no people of color in New England’s congressional delegation, and Jahana is poised to change that.
Tina Smith (MN-Sen)
Tina Smith is a champion for Minnesota working families running for the United States Senate to continue fighting for economic opportunity and fairness. She was appointed to this seat because she was ready to lead from day one, and she is working tirelessly to tackle the toughest problems facing hardworking Minnesotans. Holding this seat is a critical step on the road to winning back the majority, and Republicans -- emboldened by Trump’s strong performance in Minnesota in 2016 -- are going to do everything in their power to defeat this champion for working families.
Your donation will be split among these three incredible candidates. Can you chip in right now to help get out the vote for Lauren, Jahana, and Tina in the final crucial days of the midterms?

You may have heard by now of multiple devices, likely related to/similar to that sent to George Soros, that were discovered near the Clintons' house and Obama's office. October surprise?

It is not clear what "in the vicinity" means. (Probably for the best.) According to the statement this was a routine screening.

Hillary Clinton's Tweet-Guide to the Elections: National to Local

A reality of a Supreme Court with a right-wing majority is that the states are a new important front in protecting civil rights—especially the rights of the most vulnerable among us.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 22, 2018
State legislatures with Democratic majorities can help preserve access to the ballot for people of color, reproductive freedoms for women, the rights of LGBTQ people, protections for immigrants, Medicaid expansions, and more.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 22, 2018
Winning back state legislatures is also important in this last election before the 2020 Census. State legislatures redraw congressional districts every 10 years based on those numbers, and Democratic legislative majorities can shut down gerrymandering that disenfranchises voters.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 22, 2018
State legislature races are also a great way to make an impact as an activist. The budgets and walk lists are smaller than those of congressional races, so you can move the needle with a few volunteer hours or donations.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 22, 2018

Hillary Clinton: Four future governors to support today
In a moment, I’m going to ask you to support 4 incredible candidates for governor. But first, let me explain why this matters.
Right now, 33 states are run by Republican governors. Just 16 states are run by Democrats. That means twice as many states have a Republican calling the shots on any number of issues and local policies that are critical in people’s everyday lives.
This November, we have the chance to flip 17 governorships from red to blue, but it won’t happen without your help.
So I have to ask: Can you give $$10.48 right now to help elect four new, incredible Democratic governors? Your donation will be split evenly among the four campaigns.
David Garcia
David Garcia is running for Governor in Arizona to fight for working families and against a rigged economy. David wants Arizona to have top quality schools, good paying jobs and honest government for a change. David is a husband, dad, veteran and teacher. As Governor, David Garcia will root out the corruption, fight for education and break the old politics that hold Arizona back. He's a working-class, fourth generation Arizonan and an infantry marksman who was raised to value service and integrity. David is a national education expert who will invest in our schools, the bedrock of our communities, so our children have the best shot at opportunity and the American dream.
Janet Mills
Janet Mills is an experienced leader and an outstanding public servant running for governor of Maine to expand economic opportunity. A lifelong Mainer, Janet currently serves as the state’s attorney general and is a tireless champion for Maine families. Maine’s next governor will play a crucial part in the redistricting process, and if Janet is elected, she will be uniquely positioned to ensure that women and families’ voices are heard in the halls of power. With so much at stake, the outcome of this election will have serious implications in this swing state and beyond.
Gretchen Whitmer
Gretchen never backs down from tackling the toughest problems facing Michigan’s working families, and she was a key leader in addressing Detroit’s financial crisis. The Flint water crisis was a powerful motivator in Gretchen’s decision to seek the governorship. She is a strong believer in the power of women’s leadership because when women’s voices are included, families and communities benefit from better policy outcomes. As governor, Gretchen would have executive authority to protect Michiganders from President Trump and his Republican allies’ dangerous agenda -- and to serve as an example to the rest of our country of just how much we can accomplish together when an experienced, principled, and inclusive Democratic woman leads the way forward.
Molly Kelly
Molly Kelly is an experienced leader and a tireless fighter running for New Hampshire governor to expand economic opportunity for all. Molly knows the challenges working families face because she’s experienced them herself. Molly is running against incumbent Republican Governor Chris Sununu, who has been advancing his party’s dangerous agenda at the expense of Granite Staters he was elected to serve. Sununu has repeatedly pushed for anti-choice legislation and supports policies that would be incredibly harmful to women’s health, such as defunding Planned Parenthood. As governor, Molly will fight to improve economic security for working families and will lead communities into a future where all Granite Staters have the opportunity to thrive.
Not only do governors set the tone and direction for their state, they're our last line of defense against some of the Trump administration’s worst policies. Governors are also in charge of the officials who control state and local elections -- the very people who will influence whether or not we have fair elections in that state.
In just a few short weeks, we have the chance to flip 17 governorships and shift the balance of power back into Democratic hands. These last few weeks and days are critical for voter turnout, and these four candidates can’t get out the vote without support from incredible an incredible team like ours. Chip in $$10.48 now to help David Garcia, Janet Mills, Gretchen Whitmer, and Molly Kelly in the final days of the midterms.

Hillary Clinton Relinquishes Security Clearance
Just in case there are any questions about why this happened, it was at her request.
Clinton's security clearance withdrawn at her request
By Jordain Carney - 10/12/18 05:45 PM EDT
The State Department has revoked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's security clearance after she requested that it be withdrawn, according to a letter released Friday by a top GOP senator.
The State Department—in a letter dated Sept. 21 but publicly released Friday— told Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, that the security clearance was revoked on August 30 after Clinton requested that it be withdrawn."We would like to provide you with an update on the status of former Secretary Clinton's security clearance and the ongoing administrative review pertaining to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other current and former department officials," Charles Faulkner, the acting assistant secretary of legislative affairs, wrote to Grassley. The State Department added in the letter to Grassley that five of Clinton's aides had also had their security clearance revoked.Four of the names are redacted but one aide listed in the email is Cheryl Mills, who worked as Clinton's chief of staff.
Those of us who have been here awhile can probably guess a few of those redacted names.
Edited to add:
- It is not unusual for officials to maintain clearances when they leave office;
- Hillary and her researchers were working on Hard Choices after she retired, so no, she is not working on a new book at the moment;
- Here is the request.

Bill and Hillary Clinton at Oktoberfest in Munich
Bill wore lederhosen but there is no evidence that he performed the slap dance. Hillary wore seasonal colors.
They might have enjoyed a beer or two. The Official Beer Inquisitor is tied up in DC probably getting confirmed today. "I like beer. I drink beer. Do you like beer? Do you? DO YOU?"
Yesterday, Susan Collins spent almost 50 minutes addressing everything under the October sun except Brett Kavanaugh's performance last Thursday when he was up before the Senate Judiciary Committee for questioning and decided it was a good idea to turn the tables and interrogate some of them. The level of animosity he displayed was shocking. The whole spectacle was stunning. It apparently made no impression on Collins who will vote "yes" today making this a good day to hit the streets.

Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow to Star on Broadway in 'Hillary and Clinton' (Exclusive)
David Rooney6-8 minutes
Set during the 2008 Democratic primaries, the play about the complex workings of a marriage reunites Metcalf with producer Scott Rudin and playwright Lucas Hnath, whose 'A Doll's House, Part 2' won the actress her first Tony.
Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow, both two-time Tony Award winners, will team up on Broadway to play the power couple who have been a prominent part of the American political landscape for the past quarter-century in Hillary and Clinton.
The play by Lucas Hnath is a four-hander set in New Hampshire during the 2008 Democratic primaries, as Hillary Rodham Clinton, her chief strategist Mark J. Penn and her husband Bill Clinton butt heads over whether bringing in the former president will be a liability or an asset in HRC's troubled campaign to secure the nomination for a White House run. Her opponent, Barack Obama, is the play's unnamed fourth character, referred to only as "The Other Guy."
Rising-star playwright Hnath made his Broadway debut in 2017 with A Doll's House, Part 2, which has gone on to become the most-produced play of the current theater season in America. The witty response to Ibsen won Metcalf the first of two consecutive Tonys, for lead actress in a play. She followed with a featured actress win this year for Edward Albee's Three Tall Women. Both those plays were presented on Broadway by Scott Rudin, who also is producing Hillary and Clinton.
Joe Mantello — another two-time Tony winner, who directed Three Tall Women and this summer's hit revival of The Boys in the Band, on which Rudin also was a producer — will stage Hillary and Clinton.

Through in-depth interviews with some of today’s biggest thinkers and leaders in technology, politics, business and the arts, we will illuminate new ideas, and grapple with the most consequential issues of our time.

Read Hillary Clinton’s Remarks on Brett Kavanaugh
The former secretary of state talked with Atlantic editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg about the Supreme Court, Russian interference in the 2016 election, and President Trump
In Senate testimony last week, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh denounced the sexual-assault and misconduct allegations against him as a “political hit” and part of a left-wing conspiracy orchestrated “on behalf of the Clintons.” On Tuesday, in an interview with Atlantic editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg at The Atlantic Festival in Washington, D.C., Hillary Clinton offered her first public response to Kavanaugh’s claims. She also warned about the ongoing threat to U.S. election security posed by Russia, discussed whether she would classify President Trump as a racist, and described what she sees as existing threats to democracy.
