Gallup: Hillary Clinton is the Most Admired Woman - Again!

So much for the people who say she should go away! Best congrats, Mme. Secretary!

Story Highlights

  • Barack Obama edges out Donald Trump as most admired man
  • Hillary Clinton wins narrow victory over Michelle Obama
  • Clinton has won the past 16 years; Obama the past 10
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans once again are most likely to name Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as the man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most, as they have for the past 10 years. The pair retain their titles this year, although by much narrower margins than in the past. Obama edges out Donald Trump, 17% to 14%, while Clinton edges out Michelle Obama, 9% to 7%.
The 2017 survey marks the 16th consecutive year Clinton has been the most admired woman. She has held the title 22 times in total, more than anyone else. Eleanor Roosevelt is second with 13 wins. Obama has now been named the most admired man 10 times, trailing only Dwight Eisenhower, who earned the distinction 12 times. Obama won all eight years he was president, plus 2008 -- the year he was first elected -- and this year, his first as a former president.

Putting 2015 to Bed #smh: Another WTF Moment

Gallup released the results of its Most Admired Woman and Man Poll.   We always celebrate when Hillary Clinton comes out on top in these polls as she has here for an historical 20th time.  Brava, Hillary!

But on the other hand (there had to be another hand), on the men's side, it started out well with President Obama on top and Pope Francis second, until you see that Donald Trump tied the pope.  Really?  The guy who insults immigrants (except the ones he has been married to), slams Mexicans, wants to ban all Muslims from entering the country, views women as disgusting ... I could go on ... that guy?  He tied the pope?

Clinton Most Admired Woman for Record 20th Time

by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Americans again name Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama the woman and man living anywhere in the world they admire most. Both win by wide margins over the next-closest finishers, Malala Yousafzai for women and Pope Francis and Donald Trump for men.

It's great that Hillary is viewed so positively despite the misogynist attacks from Trump.  How did he do so well with the same participants on the other side, though?  Can there be any further #WTFMoments in this year?

Seriously?

by Jeffrey M. Jones

In total, Clinton has been most admired woman 19 times, easily the most of any woman in Gallup's history of asking the most admired question, six more times than Eleanor Roosevelt. Clinton won the distinction from 1993 to 1994 and 1997 to 2000 when she was first lady; from 2002 to 2008 when she was a U.S. senator; and from 2009 to 2012 when she was secretary of state. Although she has had no formal public role during the last two years, she retains a high enough profile to top the list. Clinton is the presumed front-runner for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, should she decide to run
