Actually there is no formal group consolidated under
this name. There is, however, a growing circle of Facebook friends who
are functioning as if there were such an organization without
ever having created a Facebook group or page devoted to their
activities. There are formal organizations devoted to carrying out work
that Hillary Clinton has, in some way, directly inspired, has
specifically spoken about, has encouraged. But the HRCRC came about in
no such way.
The participants had been coalescing
around Hillary Clinton's candidacy and work for years. They became
Facebook friends around Hillary. Some, during time not devoted to
following and promoting Hillary and her work, were involved in pet rescue and posted
on Facebook the pictures of pets who were lost, found, or languishing in
shelters on kill lists. Their Facebook friends saw and shared the
pictures. Friends of friends sent friend requests to some of the folks
generating these pictures, and the circle widened. So now, at odd hours,
often late at night, this loose coalition shares information about the
lost, the found, and the adoptable shelter pets. The information covers
the country. In some cases adoption fees are defrayed or covered and in
many cases transportation for these potential buddies-for-life can be
arranged.
Hillary Clinton did not ask anyone to do
this. It is highly unlikely that Hillary even knows that this circle and
its activity exists or that she was central to its formation, but if
you have a Facebook friend who posts pictures of homeless pets late at
night, it may well be that your friend is acquainted with some very
devoted, animal-loving Hillary supporters.
As I was
sharing pictures last night of some needy pups and kitties, I realized
that the sharing had spilled beyond my Hillary friends to my family and
my high school classmates, so I decided that I should write a blog entry
about it. When I began putting this piece together this morning, I had
no idea that today was National Pet Day.
In
Sunday's Parade magazine,
Chelsea mentioned that between her household and her parents' there are
now four dogs. Although Hillary never told us to try to find homes for
homeless pets, it is a pretty good bet that she would approve of what we
are doing using the social media that enchant her so and having become
acquainted with each other because of her. I hope she would be proud.
So,
if you do not have a furry friend in your life right now on National
Pet Day, here are a few sweethearts who are looking for a furever home
today, and there are plenty more where they came from. If you already have as many pets as you can care for, join us and share their stories with your circle of friends. Making their faces and stories go viral increases our chances of saving them from a cruel death.

When
two friends of Pet Pardons rescued 5-year-old Griffin, an Australian
Shepherd, he had not been let out of his tiny crate in 4 days!! He is
very sweet, but will need a patient guardian to understand that he is
still confused about life outside the crate. He likes to play fetch, but
doesn't always remember to bring the ball back! He is adjusting very
well to his rescuer's temporary (and very full!) foster home, but he
needs a forever home immediately.

With
warmer weather approaching, animals and children will be outside more
often. Unfortunately with this comes the increasing incident of dog
bites. What is also unfortunate is that most of these accidents are
preventable.
