Hillary Clinton's Statement on Brexit

Hillary Clinton Statement on Brexit Vote

Hillary Clinton released the following statement after the people of Great Britain voted to leave the European Union:
“We respect the choice the people of the United Kingdom have made.  Our first task has to be to make sure that the economic uncertainty created by these events does not hurt working families here in America.  We also have to make clear America’s steadfast commitment to the special relationship with Britain and the transatlantic alliance with Europe.  This time of uncertainty only underscores the need for calm, steady, experienced leadership in the White House to protect Americans’ pocketbooks and livelihoods, to support our friends and allies, to stand up to our adversaries, and to defend our interests.  It also underscores the need for us to pull together to solve our challenges as a country, not tear each other down.”

Dear Scotland, We Get It. Love, Hillary

On September 18, 2014, Scotland voted in an independence referendum to remain in the United Kingdom.  Tonight, the UK is tallying votes in a referendum held today on whether to remain in the European Union.  Should they leave, the effects on the economy promise to be bumpy. 401Ks and 403Bs, where many of us have our retirement funds tied up, are likely to be affected, not in a good way.
Donald Trump (who did not initially know what the Brexit was and probably thought it was a breakfast sandwich) has said "Why do they need them?"  He thinks a leave vote would be fine. He, himself, is leaving - (don't get excited, only temporarily) - for Scotland tonight, not that he is an especially welcome guest.
You may have seen this documentary: You've Been Trumped.  If you have not, you should find a way to see it.  It explains brilliantly why the people of Scotland are not especially happy to see Trump.

Scotland is not alone in their disdain for Trump
A previously announced stop in Ireland has apparently been cancelled.   Protests had been planned.

Hillary Clinton's Book Tour Watch: Morning TV in the U.K.

Hillary spent a cheery visit to an ITV morning show in the U.K. today promoting Hard Choices.  Lest anyone have apoplexy about this occurring on Independence Day,  a reminder:  That war is long over, and we are friends.  She was received with great hospitality and humor, the latter returned by her in her own signature manner.

Happy Fourth of July to all!

Yet again, our Hillary has been recognized, this time internationally,  and for some achievements that may have flown beneath the radar of some, but of which we here were well aware. Chatham House, London, honored her with their very prestigious 2013 Prize, today,  presented by HRH The Duke of York.

Brava, Hillary!  Best congratulations, Mme. Secretary!

Winner 2013 - Hillary Rodham Clinton

Hillary Clinton has been awarded this year’s Chatham House Prize in recognition of her significant and impressive contribution to international diplomacy as US Secretary of State and her work on behalf of gender equality and opportunities for women and girls.

Hillary ClintonDuring her tenure at the State Department, Hillary Clinton decisively drove a new era in US diplomatic engagement. She was instrumental in re-orientating the strategic focus of the United States towards the Asia-Pacific region. She was successful both in multilateral diplomacy − helping to develop new international frameworks, such as the Global Counterterrorism Forum and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition – and in bilateral negotiations, brokering an agreement between Turkey and Armenia to reopen their border and negotiating a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Her creation and implementation of the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR) made a bold comment on the importance of comprehensive diplomacy and 'civilian power'. Her understanding and use of public diplomacy demonstrated that values and ideas must be promoted through two-way dialogue, especially in the age of social media.

Secretary Clinton was equally able to tackle acute challenges in international affairs and to call on the necessary skills and tools when needed. Working in partnership with key allies in both the UN and NATO to protect civilians in Libya in 2011 was a prime example.

Secretary Clinton used her personal standing and visibility as a campaigner on the global stage to support educational and economic opportunities for women and girls. She incorporated more women into peace-building initiatives at the UN, and at the State Department she created the position of ambassador-at-large for global women's issues.

She led a global campaign for efficient, modern cooking stoves, helping to reduce the 1.9 million premature deaths per year from smoke inhalation on open cooking fires, predominantly among women in developing countries. Her work to integrate women’s rights with broader development goals backed up her long-held belief that 'it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights'.
