4th Annual Hillary Clinton Year in Review: Installment XI November 2012

Secretary Clinton wrapped up her Balkans visits on November 1 in Bosnia and Serbia while many of us on the East Coast were literally in the dark for an extended period due to Hurricane Sandy.

When she did return we did not see her right away.  Her next public appearances  were on November 8th at the State Department  and  at the  Common Ground Awards where she presented a posthumous award to Chris Stevens which his sister Anne accepted in his name.

On the 12th she arrived in Perth, Australia.  She met with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Australian Foreign Minister Robert Carr, and Australian Defense Minister Stephen Smith, in Perth, Australia.

On the 16th she arrived in Singapore where she visited a GE plant and delivered a speech on economic statecraft.

On the 18th she arrived in Thailand where she was joined by President Obama.

On the 19th the President and Secretary of State arrived in Burma.

The next stop was Cambodia where she arrived adorably late for one meeting but beamed nevertheless.

Escalating rocket exchanges between Israel and Gaza caused this visit to be cut short when the President dispatched her to the Middle East to try to negotiate a cease-fire.

She left for home and a welcome Thanksgiving break  having accomplished her objective and while she was back at the State Department on the 26th we did not see her again until the following day when she addressed the  Millennium Challenge Corporation and the International Council on Women’s Business Leadership.

On the 28th, she addressed GLIFAA, the LGBT organization of State Department employees, presented the ACE Awards, and received  African Union Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at the Department of State.

Oh! And she attended a cabinet meeting that day, too.  They were applauding Susan Rice who would turn out not to be her successor.

On the 29th she delivered  a speech on World AIDS Day,  one entitled The U.S. and Europe: A Revitalized Global Partnership at an event hosted by the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution,  and ended the day with an address at the Policy Planning Staff – Foreign Policy Group’s “Transformational Trends 2013” Forum held at the Newseum in D.C.

She ended the month with a speech about art in the embassies and an address at the Saban center where we saw her whispering at length in John Kerry's ear.  Just sayin'.
