We had our first annual @OnwardTogether members call yesterday. Thank you to the thousands of members who joined. We had a chance to hear from a few of our partner groups about the progress they're making to strengthen our democracy. I want to share some of it with you.

When @RunForSomething launched, they expected to find 100 people who wanted to run for local office. Instead, they've recruited 17,000 young candidates in all 50 states, built a network of 6,000 volunteers, and endorsed 308 candidates. Their new goal: recruit 50k candidates.

.@CollectivePAC recruits, trains, and funds progressive black candidates at every level of government. They've helped elect 23 officials so far and are doing a series of trainings for candidates and operatives with the goal of training 200 people by 2019 and 2020.

.@VotoLatino is working to engage Latinos in the civic process. They recently helped register 5,000 people in just one day at March For Our Lives events. Their goal: register 422,000 voters for the 2018 midterms and turn out 80% of those people.

We loved and admired Ron Dellums. He was intense and intelligent, fearless and philosophical. For more than 30 years in public office, he stayed true to himself and to his principles, and served the people of Oakland with honor, integrity, and a deep sense of social justice. He spoke hard truths to power and appealed to America’s conscience in championing those who had for too long been left out and left behind, whether in the East Bay, across the nation, or around the world, including as one of America’s most effective anti-apartheid activists. We will always be grateful for his friendship, his support, and for all the chances we had to laugh with and learn from him over the years.

Hillary Clinton: How you can help to reunite families today

No child should ever be torn from their parents, and no parent should have to wonder when or if they'll see their child again. But with the reunification deadline set by a federal judge fast approaching, thousands of families who have been separated at the border by the Trump administration still need to be reunited -- and in some cases, children have been sent to states far from where their parents were detained.

Hillary Clinton is set to play herself on the fifth season premiere of the drama series Madam Secretary this fall, CBS announced on Tuesday. In the episode, which will air on Sunday, October 7th, the show’s protagonist Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) will turn to Clinton and two other former secretaries of state, Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell, to “ask their advice on how to respond to a delicate situation,” a press release stated. The scenes were filmed earlier this month during the first week of production for the show’s fifth season. Earlier this year, Clinton made a cameo appearance during the Grammy Awards in which she read aloud from Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury book.

Secretary Clinton for the Defense

It is a ludicrous idea: that a former Secretary of State should feel impelled to come to the defense of a former ambassador (to a huge, powerful country) against the president's wimpy response to a dictator.  These are not normal times. Putin's demand was outrageous. Trump's response was, to quote Susan Rice, "Beyond outrageous."

Special counsel Robert Mueller just released an indictment against 12 Russian intelligence officers.

Special counsel Robert Mueller just indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers, accusing them of interfering in the 2016 US presidential election.

They are charged with hacking the computer networks of members of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. They allegedly coordinated to release damaging information to sway the election under the names “DCLeaks” and “Guccifer 2.0.” However, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to. ld reporters that it’s unclear if their efforts changed the outcome of the election.

Hillary Clinton: What we've been up to at Onward Together

When my friend Howard Dean and I first talked about forming a new organization, it was because we were blown away by the energy and commitment shown by activists -- new and old -- in the aftermath of the 2016 election. We asked ourselves: What can we do to help them?
Onward Together was formed as a way to support and connect the groups that are doing the work that absolutely needs to be done right now -- from mobilizing voters to encouraging and training new activists to recruiting people who are ready to run for office themselves. In 2017, we partnered with 11 organizations headed up by by smart, passionate leaders. We offer funding and strategic advice, and connect them with resources.
And this spring, we finally had a chance to bring those leaders together in one place, and it was really something special.
Take a moment to watch the video we've made celebrating our first Onward Together convening.
The leaders who joined us in New York come from every background. Some of them have been doing this work for years, while some were motivated by the 2016 election. They have different interests and approaches, but all share a belief that our country can be made better by the people who love it.
I really hope you'll take a moment to watch this video, because I think you'll find these activists as inspiring as I do -- and I hope you'll learn more about a group you'd like to support yourself.
