Washington, DCSeptember 3, 2010Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will host an Iftar to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00p.m., at the Department of State.
The Holy Month of Ramadan is a time devoted to worship, contemplation, charity, and fellowship, observed with a daily fast from dawn to sun down. At the end of each day, Muslims traditionally break the fast with a meal known as “Iftar.” Ramadan is the month Muslims believe the Qu’ran was revealed to the Prophet Mohamed; it is a month of reflection, generosity, and compassion for more than a billion Muslims worldwide.
Secretary Clinton and Special Representative to Muslim Communities Farah Pandith will make remarks at approximately 8:00 p.m. These remarks will be open to credentialed members of the media.
