2nd Annual Hillary Rodham Clinton Year in Review: Installment IV April 2010

April found Mme. Secretary visiting the Pentagon for a press conference with SOD Gates, Joint Chiefs Chair Mullen, and Energy Secretary Stephen Chu.

Here is why the press loves it when she walks into any briefing anywhere. She is simply so adorable and natural, and she does not stonewall. She knows the answers to the questions as well as the names of the people asking them.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton walks out from the Pentagon in Washington after attending a news briefing on the new Nuclear Posture Review April 6, 2010. The Obama administration, kicking off an intensive week of nuclear diplomacy, unveiled a revamped policy on Tuesday restricting U.S. use of its atomic weapons stockpile.

April 8, 2010: Prague This was the day Presidents Obama and Medvedev signed the New START treaty and both Secretary Clinton and Foreign Minister Lavrov, whose teams negotiated this treaty were there to watch. Mme. Secretary glowed that day. I am certain she will be sparkling just as brightly this afternoon when START is finally ratified in the Senate. CSPAN just reported that she is on her way to Capitol Hill for the final vote as I write this.

The castle was a beautiful setting for the signing. That day, our Secretary of State was the prettiest thing in it.

Back in the U.S., on April 9 she delivered a speech in Louisville at the McConnell Center.

She hit it out of the park, as always!

On April 11, there was sudden and surprise activity for a Sunday afternoon.

Something about Hillary Clinton walking this way in that suit just seems to cry out for media coverage. They should show her more.

April 12 she visited the Korean War Memorial with President Lee of South Korea.

On April 13, she participated in the Nuclear Security Summit and signed an agreement with Russian FM Lavrov.

As usual, while participants spoke, Mme. Secretary took notes (as I am taking names right now during this START vote). (RATIFIED!!!!!!!!!!)

On April 14, she received at the State Department one of my favorite of her counterparts, FM Maite Nkoana-Mashabane of South Africa. They signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) establishing a strategic dialogue between our two countries.

It is true, as Discourse has noted here, that when these two sign agreements the procedure has the look of an elementary school test. They are so cute together!

On April 15, another major address.

Then, on April 22 and 23 she attended a NATO conference of foreign ministers in Estonia. The banner and her suit almost match, and she looks spectacular in this color.

For the class picture, as usual, she is central and effusive.

This ... just because it is so pretty.

The following day, prior to speaking, also a pretty pose wearing a tweed that I love on her.

Back in DC on April 27 she received Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak at the State Department. These two get along very well and are always entertaining together somehow. In the first picture they look like they are performing in a musical.

*Fashion note: I also love this tweed on her. That feminine ruffle ... so cute! (Found something similar at Chadwick's but the smallest size it comes in is 6. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!)*

That same day, she delivered yet another address.

... wearing a spectacular hat, she attended and spoke at a memorial for Dorothy Height escorted by her favorite beau.

On April 29, she attended Dr. Height's funeral service at the National Cathedral.

Nancy Pelosi just loves her! I love that Secretarial jacket on her!

She changed the jacket for some bilaterals later in the day.

In the evening she delivered yet another major address.

She ended the month at the State Department with some bilaterals (here with former Spanish FM Moratinos), and some events that were closed to the press.

T.S. Eliot said that April is the cruellest month. With Hillary Clinton in it, it is also one of the most beautiful.
