On Secretary Clinton’s Agenda Tomorrow: Foreign Affairs Day Events

Secretary Clinton to Deliver Remarks at the Foreign Affairs Day Celebration and Attend the AFSA Memorial Plaque Ceremony on May 7

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver Remarks at the Department of State’s Foreign Affairs Day Celebration for Department of State Employees and attend the American Foreign Service Association Memorial Plaque Ceremony, at the Department of State on May 7.

The AFSA Memorial Plaque Ceremony honors those Department of State colleagues who have lost their lives while serving their country overseas in the line of duty or under heroic or other inspirational circumstances. AFSA President Susan R. Johnson will host the ceremony and will also give remarks paying tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty while serving our country in some of the most dangerous posts around the globe. Secretary Clinton will read a message from President Obama and pay her respects to the families and friends of the three heroic employees whose names will be added to the plaque, bringing the total to 230:

VICTORIA J. DELONG
Victoria J. DeLong (1952-2010), a State Department cultural officer, died on January 12 in Port-au-Prince during Haiti’s catastrophic earthquake.

DALE J. GREDLER
Dale J. Gredler (1967-2010), a Foreign Service Officer of the Agency for International Development, died on January 17 after suffering from a cardiac failure en route from Kazakhstan to receive treatment in the United States.

TERRENCE L. BARNICH
Terrence L. Barnich (1953-2009) was killed by a roadside bomb on Memorial Day (May 25, 2009), returning from an inspection of a U.S.-funded water treatment facility in Fallujah, Iraq.
