Thursday will be Children's Day in Japan and South Korea. Mme. Secretary is scheduled to leave for two days in Rome for talks on Libya, but she would never leave without commemorating Children's Day, and I could not pass up an opportunity to re-post these photos. Here are her words.

On this Children’s Day we take time to reflect on the devastating earthquake and tsunami that affected so many children in Japan. Last month, I saw firsthand the resilience of the Japanese people. From all corners of the country, Japanese citizens are standing up and building communities back anew. I want all the people of Japan – especially children – to know that you are not alone in this trying time. Throughout the United States men and women have been working with their communities and schools to donate money and food, send care packages and letters, and encourage children in the affected areas as you rebuild your lives.
During this time of rebuilding and renewal, know that the United States stands with you. We are committed to creating a brighter future filled with opportunity and prosperity for the children of Japan and for all children around the world.

On my visit to Korea last month I saw the promise of Korea’s future. The unique perspectives that your children now carry with them help cement our partnership for years to come.
We all share the responsibility to give our children a world that is cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous than the one we inherited. On this special day, as we reflect on the future of our children, know that the United States is your partner and ally in this important cause.
