Secretary Clinton to Deliver Remarks At the Release of the To Walk the Earth in Safety Report

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver remarks on December 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the State Department press briefing room to mark the tenth edition of To Walk the Earth in Safety, which showcases U.S. global leadership in landmine clearance and conventional weapons destruction.
The To Walk the Earth in Safety Report features a country-by-country summary of progress funded by the United States’ Conventional Weapons Destruction Program, a collaborative effort led by the Department of State, in partnership with the Department of Defense, United States Agency for International Development, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the Department of Health and Human Services. The report is published by the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, with support from James Madison University’s Center for International Stabilization and Recovery.
The United States is the world’s single largest financial supporter of conventional weapons destruction worldwide. Since 1993, the United States has promoted peace and security through the commitment of nearly $1.9 billion for the safe disposal of small arms, light weapons, and munitions, as well as for removal of landmines and other explosive remnants of war in 81 countries.

- At 2:30pm on December 19, at Georgetown University, the Secretary will discuss new efforts across the U.S. Government to support women's participation in peace and security, including plans to better protect women from conflict-related violence and promote women’s leadership and perspectives in all aspects of conflict prevention, resolution, relief, and recovery.
