Fox News Democratic Town Hall in Detroit

FOX News hosted a Democratic Town Hall this evening moderated by Brett Baier.

Bernie Sanders went first.  I did not take pictures of him.  You know what he looks like.  Here are some of the topics with my summaries of his responses.

How to fight ISIS:  The Muslim nations will come together to fight ISIS.  (We will supply air support.)

What is the transition from current medical care model to your program?  The wealthiest country in the world will give everybody medical care. I have worked for this all my life.  We will put everybody on Medicare.

How will you get your programs through Congress?  I will make sure college is tuition-free.  All the young people will come together and fight for my programs.

Women will get pay equity when all women mobilize and fight for fair pay.

For those who must, here is the full video of Bernie's segment.  (But, trust me, my summaries are good.)

********************************

Hillary was second. Here are some of her questions and my summaries of some of her answers.  The first several questions were from moderator, Brett Baier.

Here is the full video of Hillary's segment.

About Michael Bloomberg's decision not to run, Hillary said she looks forward to working with him in the future as she has in the past.

Libya: Hillary said it needs to be put in context - Arab Spring; soulèvement général; Qaddafi decided to fight the upheaval; Arab countries and NATO agreed that the people needed to be helped, and now there have been two democratic elections.  Leaving a dictator is place is more deadly than what is happening in Libya.

Abortion question:  Very oddly worded.  Continue to stand for women's right to decide and support Planned Parenthood. Post 20-week situation can be very complex and are rare.

Emails: The personal server was a mistake; I was not the only person to use such a server; nothing I sent was marked classified. Once the material was requested,  they were then subject to review and subsequently some were deemed classified.  She asserted that neither she nor members of her staff are targets of investigation.

Getting legislation adopted:  Bipartisan legislation is possible when you find common ground.  Hillary not saying it is easy, but you can work at it.  Compromise is possible and necessary.
Favorite Republican: She never cites one.  Mentioned Susan Collins, John McCain, and hesitated to mention more.  Didn't want to hurt them.

Crime bill:  There were some important elements, but in the end there were some chain reaction ill effects.  A comprehensive approach is needed including educational efforts.

On higher education: She was delighted to give quick summary of her New College Compact.

Healthcare:  Mistakes in the ACA need correction. Hillary will encourage competition specifically  by getting non-profits involved.

Millennials: Hillary said she is not overpromising; glad they are excited and participating and is for them even if they are not for her.

Senator Sanders: I see him as an ally. Also revisited 2008 and how she ended up supporting President Obama's election.  (For my money, this answer also speaks to the "trustworthy" question.  She had said all along she would support the nominee and she did even though a lot of her supporters abandoned her for doing so. She did what she said she would do.  She is a woman of her word.  Hillary always delivers.  What could be more trustworthy than that?)

As with many of these town halls, it was over before she knew it.  Hillary is always ready to keep going!
