Secretary Clinton and the Department of State to Celebrate International Women's Day with Three Events in Washington, DC, on March 10th

First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will host the annual International Women of Courage Awards on March 10th at 3:00 p.m. at the Department of State.
The International Women of Courage Awards will be open to credentialed members of the press and broadcast on BNET.
The morning of the 10th, Vital Voices and Avon will host a Breakfast Meeting of the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Women at 8:30 a.m. at the Department of State. Secretary Clinton founded the Vital Voices Global Partnership, a leading international NGO dedicated to supporting emerging women leaders, after the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing to promote the advancement of women as a U.S. foreign policy goal. Breakfast speakers will include Alyse Nelson, President of Vital Voices; Reese Witherspoon, Global Ambassador for the Avon Foundation; and Andrea Jung, Chairman and CEO of Avon Products. Secretary Clinton will not attend the breakfast. *Just so you know.*
The Vital Voices Breakfast Event will be open to credentialed members of the press and broadcast on BNET.
On the evening of the 10th, Secretary Clinton will present an award at the ninth annual Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards at 6:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Center. Secretary Clinton will present the Global Trailblazer Award to Melinda Gates of the Gates Foundation. Other presenters include Vital Voices Honorary Co-Chair Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair, Avon Global Ambassador Reese Witherspoon, Avon Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung, NPR’s Michele Norris, New York Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof, CNBC’s Suze Orman, Academy Award-winning Actress Sally Field, Artist Angelique Kudjo, Businesswoman Sheila Johnson, Vital Voices Chair Susan Davis, Vital Voices Vice Chair Bobbie Greene McCarthy, and Vital Voices CEO Alyse Nelson.
I am also reposting this since she has been away for most of this, and I doubt she would have been named head of the delegation if she were not participating in some way. I hope she is home in NY right now and getting some rest. I also hope she gets to stay here for a day or two before the event above. The theme of this year’s session is “The sharing of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals.”
