March 9, 2011We are deeply saddened by the passing of David Broder. For more than half a century, his work helped shape the American political landscape. For millions of readers, he shined a light on our democracy, explaining our political and policy choices, humanizing our leaders, and stimulating our debates. In our own careers, we could always count on David to ask the tough but fair questions. His work demonstrated why freedom of the press is at the heart of the American experiment. The qualities that made him a giant of journalism – his wisdom, his toughness, and his unflinching commitment to speak the truth and hold leaders accountable – and a champion of democracy are more important than ever here and abroad.
We are grateful for his life, and our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife Ann, their sons, and grandchildren.
